# Complying with EU Product Identification (PID) Requirements

Recent updates to European Union customs regulations require shipments to include specific Product Identification (PID) numbers at the line-item level to successfully clear customs and avoid border delays. These requirements specifically target Business-to-Consumer (B2C) distance sales.

To help you seamlessly comply, eHub has updated the Inventory UI to capture these codes and introduced a new B2B toggle to ensure your commercial shipments aren't subjected to unnecessary B2C validations.

### **The Three Required PID Types**

For B2C shipments to the EU, your product catalog must include up to three distinct identifiers for each item in the order:

- **Merchant PID (M-PID):** Your internal identifier for the product, which is typically your existing **SKU**.

- **Non-Standardised Manufacturer PID (NS-PID):** A new field in eHub for the model, part, or style number assigned by the original manufacturer or supplier.

- **Standardized Manufacturer PID (S-PID):** A globally recognized barcode, such as a GTIN, UPC, EAN, or ISBN. This is captured in your existing **Barcode** field. (only required if the product has this type of barcode)

*Note: You only need to configure these once per product. When generating a label, eHub automatically includes these stored PID values in the customs declaration payload sent to the carrier API for EU-bound shipments. If you are shipping domestically or to a non-EU country, the system safely omits these fields to prevent API errors.*

### **Managing PIDs in Your Inventory**

To update your products with the required customs data:

1. Navigate to your **Inventory** page and select a product to edit.
2. Ensure your existing **SKU** (Merchant PID) and **Barcode** (Standardized Manufacturer PID) fields are accurate. If the system detects a standardized Manufacturer type barcode it will be labeled as such (GTIN, UPC, EAN or ISBN)
3. Locate the new **Non-Standardised Manufacturer PID** field and enter the factory or supplier model number.
4. Click **Save**.

If an EU-bound B2C shipment is missing a mandatory PID required by your specific carrier, eHub will catch the carrier API rejection and display a missing customs data error so you can correct the product details before printing the label.

### **Using the B2B Shipment Toggle**

Because the EU's PID regulations strictly apply to B2C shipments, applying these rules to wholesale or business-to-business (B2B) orders can cause unnecessary clearance issues.

Previously, shipments created manually in the UI defaulted to B2C. To give you full control, we have added a dedicated B2B toggle to the shipping interface.

1. Open the **Order Details** (or ShipKey UI) for your international shipment.
2. Locate the customs configuration section.
3. Toggle the **B2B Shipment** setting to the ON position.
4. Proceed with label generation.

By explicitly marking the shipment as B2B, the system bypasses the B2C-specific PID enforcement, ensuring your commercial shipments process smoothly without triggering missing-PID errors.

### **Using the B2B Shipment Toggle Through Automations**

You can also use Automations to add the B2B Shipment toggle to an order. Create the search for orders you would like the toggle to apply to and select “Assign Commercial Shipment (B2B)” As the action.
